Having completed the marine start (Iridium Extraction), I’ve been deciding on where to start creating the next area of the map. I figure there’s a few different ways I could go about building the level:
1. Build each main tech room one by one on seperate maps, and then C/P them in.
2. Build out from the marine start and construct additional rooms and hallways leading to the next room.
3. Construct node rooms before tech rooms.
I’ve pretty much settled on creating tech rooms 1 by 1 in seperate maps and then pasting into a main map after all 6 area created and then creating everything in between them. I find that this will give me no restrictions in terms of creating the interim passages and areas as I can dictate what’s what.
That brings me then to where to start next. After finishing the marine start the other day, I decided to start up on Waste Disposal, the alien start. It’s going to be a unique room with two entrances. Thinking of it as a box, there will be an entrance on the west wall, and the south wall. The hive will sit in the southwest corner. The northeast and north areas will be a waste pit with dumping machinery and a transportation drop. The playable area will be 3/4’s the room, with a center column dividing the room. It will also have elevation and overlook. The south entrance ill be higher up than the west, the hive will sit 1 notch below the south’s height, which is 2 notches above the west.
I know this is hard to picture, but once I have progress visually, I will update. Here’s to mapping it!
