Before I even started creating the map I did quite a bit of brainstorming in both terms of layout as well as style. I work far better when I have a plan of action and I wanted to give everyone an insight onto the makeup of the map that’s started to form already with one area being completed sans polishing that will occur over time.
Using the mapping guidelines, the general look is the scattered pattern that is listed in the guide. Almost a star with the two bottom points chubbed off a bit and a center point added. I decided when I started mapping that hallways would not be the focus at all, and everything would be built with an emphasize on larger rooms with smaller hallways. I’m sure i’ll bend this and have one or two, but far removed from the previous style relating to the original NS. I’ve also been brainstorming for dynamic pieces of the map such as a service elavator, multiple weldable secondary routes, vents opened by DI, and the like.
The following is a rough idea of the maps locations, special pieces, and size:
6 Tech Node Rooms (5 in a mock-star/chubbed feet pattern, 1 centralized)
11 Res Nodes (1 double node room, 2 tech points do not have nodes, 1 has a node in an offshoot room only accessible through the tech point)
13 Named Map Locations (6 Tech rooms, and 7 smaller node rooms roughly 1/3rd the tech node room size)
LOCATIONS
Iridium Extraction (Marine start, see previous pictures)
Waste Disposal (Alien start, focus on a vast pit, 75% mechanical, 25% rock)
Dig Site (Farthest tech point from AS/MS, Rock based, mining equipment)
Mineral Processing (Natural marine expansion, docking pay, storage containers, crane, conveyor belts)
Machine Assembly (Natural alien expansion, mechanized machinery)
Generator Core (Center tech point, 3 entrances as opposed to 2, circular/triangular room, allows great access for map flow, heavily contested, huge generator and sub generator constructs)
Exhaust Control (Fans)
Auxillary Conduit (Sub-power, machinery/wiring)
Tram Operations (Glass overlook, control station)
Site Survaillence (Dig site crew room)
The Arm (Connection between the dig site and waste disposal, catwalk suspension)
Unnamed Location (Double node room, administration)
Unnamed Location (Completely unsure at the moment, need to do more brainstorming, suggestions welcomed)
SPECIAL PIECES
Angled Large Ramp Elevator (Natural rally point, into the generator core from aux conduit)
