The following are the first shots I released to the public via the NS2 forums. This is the start of my map, the marine start. (Iridium Extraction) Fresh and rough.
Construction of the marine area and this map in general pretty much stemmed from nothing. I actually started by creating the door frame and worked my way left to create the res node area. Then trailed farther into creating the layered marine base. I’m a huge advocate of interesting uses in elevation, but keeping them clean and commander friendly.
I feel like I’ve been pouring a lot of the ideas I wanted to create in Hammer for NS into this, but with much more purpose. The tiered layer up the tech point creates a sense of overseeing that I believe to be subtle and powerful. The room is gritty and intense, yet purposefully designed to feel like the particular “base” area is more of a haven in orange hum of the refinery.
Although the res node is sunken, it has ample overlook and is meant to ooze character. The evolution of this room is no doubt going to change in small patches, but I believe it’s heart won’t be altered. Expect to see alterations as I complete the other roughly 40% of the room over the next week or two.
